As we know King Zulqarnain travelled from East to West and North to
South. When he was travelling the world, he imprisoned the Ya’jooj
Ma’jooj behind a very thick wall. Zulqarnain went East, the people said
to him, “In between these mountains, there is a nation called Ya’jooj
Ma’jooj, who are like animals. Their teeth are like those of wild
animals. When they come out they eat snakes, scorpions, horses, mules,
donkeys, vegetables and wild animals. We will give you anything if you
build a wall between the Ya’jooj Ma’jooj and us so that they won’t harm
us.” Zulqarnain said, “I don’t need paying, but what I would like is
that you can help me by bringing me pieces of iron, wood and coal.” When
they brought these things, Zulqarnain started to build the wall. After
this, he started to blow on it. When it became red-hot, he said, “Bring
liquid copper.” He put this liquid copper on the wall and made it very
strong.
Then he said, “They will come out from behind the wall, when
Allah wants them to”
The Ya’jooj Ma’jooj will come and eat the people in the world. They will
drink all the water from the East and all the water from Buhaira
Tabria. Wherever there is water, they will drink all of it. If they find
any humans they will eat them. People will be scared and will hide.
When they don’t see a person on earth they will say, “We have finished
all the people on earth now we will fight the people in the sky.” They
will shoot arrows towards the sky. Allah will make their arrows red and
send them back, and then they will be happy and say “ That we have
killed the people in the sky also”. At that time, Prophet Isa (alayhi
salaam) will be on the mountain. There will be a shortage of food.
Prophet Isa (alayhi salaam) and the other Muslims will pray to Allah,
“Oh Allah! Save us from them.”
Allah will listen to their prayers and create a spot on their necks.
With that, they will all die. Then Prophet Isa (alayhi salaam) and the
Muslims will come down from the mountain, they will see that all the
ground is covered with bodies and a dirty smell will be spreading. They
will pray to Allah, “Oh Allah! Save us from this dirty smell.” Allah
will send birds whose necks are like camels’. They will take all the
bodies and throw them on mount Nimbar, this mountain is in Palestine.
After this, Allah will send rain. With this, all the ground will be
clean. Then Prophet Isa (alayhi salaam) with his people will stay on the
ground and the shortage of food will finish. Allah will send blessings
in everything. There will be so much blessing that one pomegranate will
be enough for one tribe, and one pomegranate’s peel will make one big
tent enough for a group of people to stay under. In this way, one cow’s
milk will be enough for one tribe. All these blessings will come when
all the Ya’jooj Ma’jooj are dead
Gog Magog were released in Waves one follow another and these Waves like
Tsunami Waves hit all of World Populated and not Populated Areas
especially Arabs and Muslims but they will hit Arabs (Muslim Arabs as

Gog and Magog are two groups of Turks, descended from Yaafith (Japheth),
the father of the Turks, one of the sons of Noah. At the time of
Abraham (p.b.u.h.), there was a king called Dhool-Qarnayn. He performed
Tawaaf around the Kabah with Abraham (p.b.u.h.) when he first built it;
he believed and followed him. Dhool-Qarnayn was a good man and a great
king; Allah gave him great power and he ruled the east and west. He held
sway over all kings and countries, and traveled far and wide in both
east and west. He traveled eastwards until he reached a pass between two
mountains, through which people were coming out. They did not
understand anything because they were so isolated; they were Gog and
Magog. They were spreading corruption through the earth, and harming the
people, so the people sought help from Dhool-Qarnayn. They asked him to
build a barrier between them and Gog and Magog. He asked them to him to
build it, so together they built a barrier by mixing iron, copper and
tar.
Thus Dhool-Qarnayn restrained Gog and Magog behind the barrier. They
tried to penetrate the barrier, or to climb over it, but to no avail.
They could not succeed because the barrier is so huge and smooth. They
began to dig, and they have been digging for centuries; they will
continue to do so until the time when Allah decrees that they come out.
At that time the barrier will collapse, and Gog and Magog will rush out
in all directions, spreading corruption, uprooting plants, killing
people. When Jesus (p.b.u.h.) prays against them, Allah will send a kind
of worm in the napes of their necks, and they will be killed by it
Another relevant Hadith:
Ibn Mas'ood reported that the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said, "On the night of
the Israa' (night journey), I met my father Abraham, Moses and Jesus,
and they discussed the Hour. The matter was referred first to Abraham,
then to Moses, and both said, 'I have no knowledge of it'. Then it was
referred to Jesus, who said, 'No one knows about its timing except
Allah; what my Lord told me was that the Dajal will appear, and when
he sees me he will begin to melt like lead. Allah will destroy him when
he sees me. The Muslims will fight against the Kafirs, and even the
trees and rocks will say, 'O Muslim, there is a Kafir hiding beneath me
- come and kill him!' Allah will destroy the Kafirs, and the people
will return to their lands. Then Gog and Magog will appear from all
directions, eating and drinking everything they find. The people will
complain to me, so I will pray to Allah and He will destroy them, so
that the earth will be filled with their stench. Allah will send rain
which will wash their bodies into the sea. My Lord has told me that when
that happens, the HOUR WILL BE VERY CLOSE, LIKE A PREGNANT WOMAN WHOSE
TIME IS DUE, BUT HER FAMILY DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHEN SHE WILL DELIVER."

Who is Gog & Magog?
The story of Gog and Magog is stated both in the Quran and hadith.
Both Quran and the hadith have clearly mentioned their existence,
arrival and the aftermath of their arrival. Their appearance will be one
of the signs of the end times. These events will transpire after the
arrival of Dajjal, Mehdi and Eesaa (Alaihis-Salam). In the Islamic tradition, Hadiths and Quran, they
are sometimes individuals, sometimes peoples, and sometimes geographic
regions, their reference in the Quran and hadith clearly indicates that
they are people numerous in number who will appear toward end of times.
Here is the origin of Yajooj and Majooj. Allah almighty has mentioned
the followings verses in the Quran.
“Then we saved him and those with him in the ship” (Al-‘Ankabut, 15),
“And, his progeny (اولاد), them we made the survivors” (As-Saffat, 77).
According to these verses, the survivors of the flood were only the progeny (اولاد)
of Prophet Nooh (Alaihis-Salam) and no one else. Accordingly, Yajooj
and Majooj come from the same progeny. A Hadith transmitted in Imam
Ahmed’s Musnad and the Sunan of Abu Dawud states that there were three
sons born to Prophet Nooh (Alaihis-Salam), these are Shem, Ham and
Japheth. Shem was the father of the Arabs, Ham was the father of the
Sudanese and Japheth was the father of the Turks. According to the
descriptions narrated by hadith, Gog and Magog belong to the Turkic
Mongol race; have small eyes, small flat noses and wide faces. Their
faces look like hammered-out shields (their faces are likened to shields
because they are wide and round)
Imam Al-Bukhari transmitted in his Sahih the following
Hadith: A man told the Prophet (S.A.W.S) that he had seen the dam of
Gog and Magog.
The Prophet (S.A.W.S) asked: “How did you find it?
” The man said: “I found it like Al-Burd Al-Muhabbar (striped garments).” The Prophet (S.A.W.S) said:
“You have seen it.”
According to the Quran, they will be set loose shortly before the
arrival of the Day of Judgment as Allah Almighty has mentioned in Quran,
“Until, when Yajooj and Majooj are let loose
(from their barrier), and they swiftly swarm from every mound. And the
true promise (Day of Resurrection) shall draw near (to fulfillment)…”
[Surah al-Anbiyaa: 96-97]
Allah Almighty clearly informed His Prophet (S.A.W.S) that Yajuj and
Majuj will be from among the people of Hell and that their nature denies
the truth and submission to it, as they will not respond to the caller
till the Day of Judgment
Where are they now a day?
There is a barrier between the Gog and Magog and
us, the barrier between the Gog and Magog is removed when the world is
full of evil. Allah opens the wall between the Gog and Magog and us,
when the evil in the world is increased at its last stage.
It is said that the Caliph, Al-Wathiq, sent some messengers with
messages to different kings to ask them to travel from one country to
another till they reached the dam and affirmed its reality. When they
came back to the Caliph, they described it to him saying that it has a
huge door with many locks. It was very high and the remnants of its
building materials and tools were kept there in a tower. Also, there
were still guards keeping an eye on it. They added that its location was
on the north-east side of the earth. It was also said that their land
was very spacious and that they lived on farming and hunting and that
their numbers were countless.
In Ibn Jarir’s exegesis of the Qur’an, it was reported by
Qatadah that when the man told the Prophet (S.A.W.S) that he had seen
the dam of Yajooj and Majooj and was asked to describe it, he said: ‘It
looked like striped garments, with red and black stripes.’ The Prophet
(S.A.W.S) said:
“You have seen it.”
It is stated in the Holy Quran that Allah has held Gog and
Magog behind a barrier that was created with iron and copper by
Dhul-Qarnain.
Allah Almighty tells us (interpretation of the meaning): “Then
he followed (another) way, until, when he reached between two
mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people
who scarcely understood a word. They said: ‘O Dhoo’l-Qarnayn! Verily!
Yajooj and Majooj are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then
pay you a tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and
them?’ He said: ‘That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord
has established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with
strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. Give me
pieces (blocks) or iron,’ then, when he had filled up the gap between
the two mountain-cliffs, he said, ‘Blow,’ till when he had made it (red
as) fire, he said, ‘Bring me molten copper to pour over it.’ So they
[Yajooj and Majooj] were made powerless to scale it or dig through it.
(Dhoo’l-Qarnayn) said: ‘This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the
Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the
Promise of my Lord is ever true.’ And on that Day [i.e., the day Yajooj
and Majooj will come out], we shall leave them to surge like waves on
one another, and the Trumpet will be blown, and we shall collect them
all together.” [Surah al-Kahf 18:92-99]
One day, this barrier is open between the (Gog and Magog) and us, after the evil is increased in the world at its last stage.
Give their relevancy with the sign of doomsday?
A prophetic Hadith is transmitted by Imam Al-
Bukhari and Imam Muslim on the authority of Mother of the Believers,
Zainab Bint Jahsh (May Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet
(S.A.W.S) once came to her in a state of fear and said:
“None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.
Woe unto the Arabs from a danger that has come near. An opening has been
made in the wall of Gog and Magog like this,”
making a circle with his thumb and index finger. Zainab Bint Jahsh
said: “O Allah’s Messenger! Shall we be destroyed even though there are
pious persons among us?” He said:
“Yes, when the evil persons will increase.”
And in another narration the Prophet (S.A.W.S) said:
“Allah has made an opening in the wall of the Yajooj and Majooj (people) like this, and he made with his hand (with the help of his fingers)” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).
After Prophet Essa (P.B.U.H) will kill the Dajjal (Anti-Christ),
Allah will inform him about the arrival of this disbelieving tribe that
is undefeated and he will take refuge in the Mount of Toor until Allah
will destroy them.
Al-Nawaas ibn Sam’aan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), while describing the
signs of the Day of judgment said:
“… and Allah will send Yajooj and Majooj, swiftly
swarming from every mound. They will pass the lake of Tiberius [in
Palestine] and will drink everything that is in it. Then the last of
them will pass by and will say, ‘There used to be water here once.’ The
Prophet of Allah, ‘Eesaa, and his companions, will be besieged until a
bull’s head will be more precious to one of them than a hundred dinars
are to any of you today. ‘Eesaa and his companions will pray to Allah,
and Allah will send a kind of worm (like that found in the noses of
camels and sheep) on their (Yajooj and Majooj) necks, and they will fall
down dead, all at once. Then Eesaa and his companions will come down
out of the place where they were besieged, and they will find hardly a
hand span of land that is not filled with the stench (of Yajooj and
Majooj), so ‘Eesaa and his companions will pray to Allah, and He will
send birds like the necks of camels to carry them away and throw them
wherever Allah wills.” (Reported by Muslim, 18/68).
The Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj (Gog Magog)
During the reign of
Hadhrat Isa (Jesus A.S.) people will live an extremely peaceful life filled
with prosperity and abundance. Then the wall which imprisons Ya'jooj and
Ma'jooj will break and they will surge forth in large numbers.
"But when Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj are let loose and they rush headlong down every hill" (Quran 21:97)
Who are the Ya'jooj and Majooj?
Zul
Qarnain (A.S.) who was a pious and just Ruler travelled to many lands
and conquered them, establishing justice and the Law of Allah therein.
Allah Ta'ala provided him with all forms and material strength through
which he was able to carry out his conquests and missions.
He
once carried out a mission in three directions, the far west, the far
east, and then in a northerly direction. It was here that he came across
a tribe of people who complained to him about the tribes of Ya'jooj and
Majooj which inhabited the land behind two huge mountains and often
emerged from behind these mountains to perpetrate acts of anarchy and
plunder among them. They requested Zul Qarnain (A.S.) to erect a barrier
between themselves and the tribes of Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj so that they
could be saved from their atrocities. With the material strength at his
disposal, Zul Qarnain (A.S.) enlisted their physical labor and set about
erecting a high wall between the two mountains. The height of the wall
or its exact length is unknown. What is known is that the height of this
wall reaches that of the summit of both mountains. It is made with
blocks or sheets of iron, which is further strengthened by molten lead.
In this manner Ya'jooj and Majooj are unable to scale the wall, or cross
it, except when it is the will of Allah.
"And when the promise of my Rabb approaces, He will level it to dust" (Quran 18:98)
They
are situated in a land of ice which is hidden from our gazes and the
exact location of which is unknown. Though many interpretations do exist
in this respect, none of these can be said to absolute. Ya'jooj and Majooj are human beings and according to a narration they are from the progeny of Yafith ibn Nooh (A.S.).(Noah)
Some Ahadith...
In a lengthy hadith by Hadhrat Nawwas ibn Sam'aan (R.A.) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said:
"...Allah
will send revelation upon Eesa (A.S.) that 'Such a creation of mine is
now going to emerge that no power will be able to stop them. Therefore
take my servants and ascend the Mount of Toor.' Then Ya'jooj and Majooj
will emerge and surge forth in all their fury. When those from among
them who constitute the former part of their army pass the lake of
Tiberias (which is in northern Palestine), they will drink up all the
water of that lake and by the time those that constitute the latter part
of that same army pass the lake, they will say, "There used to be water
here (long ago). When they reach the Mount of Khamr in Jerusalem, they
will arrogantly proclaim: 'We have conquered the people of the earth,
now we will annihilate those in the sky.' So saying they will fire their
arrows towards the sky. When the arrows return to the ground they will
be blood stained.In the meantime, Eesa (A.S.) will be on the
Mount of Toor with his followers. At that time the head of and ox will
be as valuable as is a hundred dinars to you in this day. [This
indicates the scarcity of provisions]. Faced with these hardships, Eesa
(A.S.) and his followers will make dua unto Allah (to remove this
calamity). As a result, Allah will cause sores to appear on the necks of
each and every individual of these people which will cause their death
suddenly. When Eesa (A.S.) and his followers descend from the Mount of
Toor there will not be a single space on the land where the dead rotting
bodies of these people is not littered, giving off a horrendous odour.
Eesa (A.S.) and his followers will once more supplicate unto Allah as a
result of which Allah will send down huge birds whose necks will be as
thick as that of the necks of camels, and they will dump these bodies in
a place where Allah wills. (According to a narration by Tirmidhi, they
will be dumped at a place called Nahbal).
Allah Ta'ala will then
send down a heavy rain, the waters of which will flow in every part of
the earth cleansing it thoroughly. It will rain for a period of forty
days.
The Muslims will then burn the bows and arrows of the Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj for a period of seven years.
Allah
will order the earth to yield forth its crops in abundance and there
will be such blessing and prosperity that one pomegranate will be
sufficient for a whole group while the peel thereof will suffice to cast
a shadow over them. The milk of one camel will be sufficient for many
groups while one milk giving cow will be sufficient for a whole tribe.
One milk giving goat will be sufficent for a whole family..." (Muslim)
Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:
"On
the day of Qiyamah Allah will say to Adam (A.S.) to pick out the
Jahannamis from his entire progeny. Adam (A.S.) will ask: 'O Rabb, who
are they?'
Allah will say: 'Nine hundred and ninety nine of a thousand are Jahannami while the one is a Jannati.'
On
hearing this the Sahaba were overtaken by fear and they asked "O
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), who will that one Janniti be?'
Rasulullah
(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: 'Do not grieve, the nine hundred and
ninety nine will be Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj while you will be the
Jannati."' (i.e. your numbers in relation to them will be one in a
thousand).
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:
"Allah
Ta'ala divided mankind into ten parts. Nine tenths constitute Ya'jooj
and Ma'jooj while the remaining tenths constitutues the rest of
mankind."
Hadhrat Zainab bint Jahsh (R.A.) says: "...once
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wassallam) awoke from such a sleep that
his face was red and these words were on his tongue: 'There is none
worthy of worship except Allah. Destruction is upon the Arabs on account
of the evil which has come close to them. Today a hole as big as this
has opened up in the wall of Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj.' ..and Rasulullah
(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) indicated the size of the hole forming a
ring with his index finger and thumb."

Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that every day Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj break
(dig) through the wall erected by Zul Qarnain (A.S.) until they reach
the end of it to that extent that they can actually see the light on the
other side. They then return (home) saying that 'We will break through
tomorrow.' But Allah Ta'ala causes the wall to revert to its original
thickness and the next day they start digging through the wall all over
again, and this process continues each day until as long as Allah wills
them to remain imprisoned. When Allah wishes them to be released, then
at the end of the day they will say, "If Allah wills, tomorrow we will
break through." The following day they will find the wall as they had
left it the previous day (i.e. it will not have returned to its orginal
state) and after breaking the remaining part of it they will emerge."
(Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)Commenting on the above hadith, Allamah Ibn Arabi says, Three miracles are evident in this Hadith:
1.)
It never occurs to these tribes that they must continue work during the
night. After all, they are in such large numbers that they can easily
delegate the work among themselves and work in shifts. But Allah does
not allow this thought to occur to them.
2.) It never occurs to
them that they can merely cross the mountains or scale the wall, which
they can do through the aid of equipment and implements wich they
possess in large numbers. According to a narration by Wahab ibn Munabbah
it is known that these tribes are agriculturists and Artisians
possessing various types of equipment.
3.) The thought of saying
"If Allah wills" never enters their minds and it will only occur to them
to say it when Allah wills that they be released
